Choir

Since its inception in 1994, the Nelson Mandela University Choir (formerly known as the NMMU Choir and before that as the UPE Choir) under the baton of founder-conductor Junita Lamprecht-Van Dijk has enjoyed numerous national and international invitations, including:

  • 2017 Represented Africa at the 3rd Shanghai International Choral Festival in Shanghai, China, as well as at the Jiangsu Zijin Choral Festival in Nanjing, China. Performed at the Kuesta National University Choral Festival at Stellenbosch University.
  • 2016 Finalist in the Varsity Sing Choir Competition on KykNET (DSTV Channel 144), and performed at the 3rd BeKoor/AChoired Taste Choral Festival in Cape Town. 
  • 2015 Represented Africa at the IFCM World Choral Expo in Macau; hosted the Kuesta National Univeristy Choral Festival; performed at the 2nd BeKoor/AChoired Taste Choral Festival in Cape Town
  • 2014 Represented Africa the the 12th China Internatonal Chorus Festival and IFCM World Choral Summit in Beijing, China; 20 Year NMMU Choir Reunion Festival
  • 2013 Kuesta National University Choral Festival at University of Johannesburg
  • 2012 Represented Africa at the 11th China International Chorus Festival and IFCM World Summit in Beinjing, China
  • 2011 Being 1 of 24 choirs chosen to perform at the IFCM 9th World Choral Symposium in Puerto Madryn, Argentina
  • 2010 Performing at La Fabrica del Canto International Choral Festival in Legnanao, Italy and the opening of the FIFA world cup festivities in Milano, Italy.
  • 2009 Participatec in the 46th Internationaler Chorwettbewerb in Spittal an der Drau, Austria. Performed at the Kuesta National University Choral Festival at Potchefstroom University.
  • 2007 Performed at the Kuesta National University Choral Festival at Stellenbosch University. Horizons Tour to USA - invited by the Sister Cities Association, Jacksonville, Florida and the Chicago Children’s Choir
  • 2004 The Windhoek International Arts Festival, Namibia
  • 2000 Featured in a film based on the life of Nelson Mandela commissioned by Norway and filmed on Robben Island.
  • 1999 Voices International Choir Festival: Trondheim in Norway.
  • 1998 & 2002 Grahamstown Arts Festival: Main Festival.
  • 1999 Performance before Queen Elizabeth II
